‘Perhaps it will be all right, I thought. Perhaps, when I go to work, there will be peace, and Theobald will stop jumping from foot to foot, and Eva will no longer be beautiful.’
Mayfly Press is proud to reissue Julia Darling’s coming of age novel, Crocodile Soup. Funny, poignant and brilliantly bizarre, Crocodile Soup fizzes with offbeat energy.
Originally published in 1998 and long-listed for the Orange Prize for Fiction in 1999, Crocodile Soup is award-winning writer Julia Darling’s first novel. If you haven’t discovered Julia’s fiction yet, you are in for a real treat. Crocodile Soup is a gay classic and a perfect summer read.
To celebrate the book launch, we are teaming up with the Poetry Virgins for a summery evening at the fabulous Rendezvous Café in Whitley Bay.
We hope you can join us for an ice cream from 6.00-7.30pm on Thursday, 6 August at Rendezvous Café, where there will be readings from Crocodile Soup.
We will be joined on the evening by Poetry Virgins, Ellen Phethean, Kay Hepplewhite, Fiona MacPherson, who will read from a new collection of Julia Darling’s poetry, Indelible, Miraculous. Diamond Twig will also present readings by poets who took part in the Inspired by Julia project, Jackie Litherland, Annie Moir and Pippa Little.
This is a free event, but please book in advance at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/crocodile-soup-at-the-rendezvous-cafe-tickets-17859769050
