The original First Aid Kit for the Mind, developed and made by Julia Darling, Emma Holliday and Jay Smart, was the start of a collection, a piece of ‘home’ in a box should you find yourself in a hospital or other setting where you would need something familiar. For ten years the boxes have retained their original contents, this workshop will be branching out from this format and letting it take it the next step of it’s journey.
This workshop will lift the lid on the First Aid Kit for the Mind once more. You will be invited to make your own box – for yourself or for someone else.
Using an assortment of mark-making and writing techniques, you will have the opportunity to compose words and create images in a mixture of art and creative writing workshops, and one to one sessions. As this event is held in a theatre, expect the unexpected!
You will be provided with an empty First Aid Kit box, some of the original contents and many new materials and ideas to work with. Please bring words you may have already written and any items that you’d like to include (favourite postcards, items from games, snippets of fabric, seeds of ideas).
Places are strictly limited so please book early. It is hoped the workshop will culminate in an installation The Box Room where your work will be exhibited.
